NixOS vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2020-25286 is a security vulnerability discovered in WordPress versions before 5.4.2, affecting the wp-includes/comment-template.php file. The vulnerability, discovered by Carolina Nymark, allows comments from password-protected posts and pages to be visible in the latest comments section even when the post or page was not public. This issue was disclosed and fixed in WordPress 5.4.2 security release on June 10, 2020 (WordPress Release).

The vulnerability exists in the comment-template.php file where the comment visibility check was not properly implemented. The issue has a CVSS v3.1 Base Score of 5.3 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N, indicating that it can be exploited over the network with low attack complexity and requires no privileges or user interaction (NVD).

The vulnerability could lead to information disclosure where unauthorized users could view comments from password-protected or private posts through the latest comments functionality. This could potentially expose sensitive information that was intended to be private (WPScan).
