JIRA vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2020-4024 is a Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability discovered in Atlassian Jira Server and Data Center. The vulnerability affects versions before 8.5.5, versions 8.6.0 to 8.8.2, and versions 8.9.0 to 8.9.1. The issue was discovered and reported on May 29, 2020, and was resolved on the same day (Jira Issue).

The vulnerability exists in the attachment download resource of Jira Server and Data Center. It allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary HTML or JavaScript through attachments specifically crafted with a vnd.wap.xhtml+xml content type (CVE Details).

This vulnerability enables remote attackers to perform Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) attacks by injecting malicious HTML or JavaScript code through specially crafted attachments.
