CVE-2021-42639: 
PrinterLogic Server vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2021-42639 is a reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting PrinterLogic Web Stack versions 19.1.1.13 SP9 and below. The vulnerability was discovered during research conducted between April and June 2021 by The Paranoids, Yahoo's vulnerability research team. The issue occurs when attacker-controlled input is reflected back in the page without proper sanitization (NVD, SecurityWeek).

The vulnerability is classified as a Cross-site Scripting (CWE-79) issue with a CVSS v3.1 base score of 6.1 (Medium) and vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. The flaw stems from insufficient sanitization of user input that gets reflected back in web pages (NVD). Most PrinterLogic installations are not directly accessible from the internet, requiring attackers to first obtain a privileged network position through VPN access or by exploiting another vulnerability in an edge appliance (SecurityWeek).

The vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute malicious scripts in a user's browser session when viewing affected pages. This could potentially lead to theft of sensitive information, session hijacking, or other client-side attacks (NVD).

The vulnerability requires user interaction and network access to exploit. An attacker would need to trick a user into visiting a specially crafted URL or webpage that contains the malicious XSS payload. Additionally, most installations are not internet-facing, which reduces the likelihood of remote exploitation (SecurityWeek).

PrinterLogic addressed this vulnerability in Web Stack version 19.1.1.13-SP10, released on January 21, 2022. Users should upgrade to this version or later to resolve the issue. For the SaaS platform, patches were automatically pushed worldwide (SecurityWeek).
