NixOS vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2022-2982 is a heap use-after-free vulnerability discovered in Vim's qf_fill_buffer() function within the src/quickfix.c file, affecting versions prior to 9.0.0260. The vulnerability was identified and disclosed in August 2022, impacting various distributions of the Vim text editor (NVD, CVE).

The vulnerability occurs when Vim uses freed memory during recursive calls to the 'quickfixtextfunc' functionality. The issue specifically manifests in the qf_fill_buffer() function located in the src/quickfix.c file. When exploited, this vulnerability could lead to a program crash or potentially allow for arbitrary code execution if a user is tricked into opening a specially crafted file (Red Hat CVE).
