CVE-2023-20624: 
NixOS vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2023-20624 is a medium severity vulnerability discovered in the vow component affecting MediaTek chipsets. The vulnerability was disclosed in March 2023 and affects various MediaTek chipset models running Android 12.0 and 13.0 operating systems (MediaTek Bulletin).

The vulnerability is classified as a Buffer Copy without Checking Size of Input ('Classic Buffer Overflow') vulnerability (CWE-120). The issue stems from an incorrect bounds check in the vow component, which could potentially lead to an out-of-bounds write condition (MediaTek Bulletin).

The vulnerability affects multiple MediaTek chipsets including MT6789, MT6833, MT6853, MT6855, MT6873, MT6875, MT6877, MT6879, MT6883, MT6885, MT6983, MT8781, MT8791, MT8791T, and MT8797. If exploited, it could lead to local escalation of privilege with System execution privileges (MediaTek Bulletin).

MediaTek has notified device OEMs of the issue and corresponding security patches were made available at least two months before the public disclosure in March 2023. Users should ensure their devices are updated with the latest security patches (MediaTek Bulletin).
