Java vulnerability analysis and mitigation

Silverpeas Core 6.3.1 and below contains a broken access control vulnerability (CVE-2023-47320) discovered in 2023. The vulnerability allows low-privileged users to execute administrator-only functionality to put the application in "Maintenance Mode", making it unavailable to all users (NVD, Rhino Labs).

The vulnerability stems from improper access control implementation that fails to properly restrict access to administrative functions. It has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 8.1 (HIGH) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H, indicating it can be exploited remotely with low attack complexity and requires low privileges but no user interaction (NVD).

When exploited, this vulnerability allows an attacker to make the entire Silverpeas Core application unavailable to all users by activating the Maintenance Mode, effectively causing a denial of service condition (Rhino Labs).

The vulnerability has been fixed in Silverpeas Core version 6.3.2. Organizations running affected versions (6.3.1 and below) should upgrade to version 6.3.2 or later to mitigate this vulnerability (Rhino Labs).
