CVE-2024-2126: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The Orbit Fox by ThemeIsle plugin for WordPress contains a Stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability (CVE-2024-2126) in the Registration Form widget affecting all versions up to and including 2.10.32. The vulnerability was disclosed on March 13, 2024, and is tracked with a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (Medium) (NVD).

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the Registration Form widget component. This security flaw allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. The injected scripts will execute whenever a user accesses the compromised page. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 vector of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N (NVD).

When exploited, this vulnerability allows attackers to inject malicious scripts that execute in users' browsers when they visit affected pages. This could lead to various attacks including cookie theft, session hijacking, or other client-side attacks targeting site visitors. The impact is heightened as the scripts persist in the database and execute for all users who access the compromised pages (NVD).

The vulnerability requires an authenticated user with contributor-level privileges or higher to exploit. While this requirement somewhat limits the potential attackers, many WordPress sites have multiple users with the required access level. The attack can be executed through the plugin's Registration Form widget interface (NVD).

The vulnerability has been patched in version 2.10.33 of the Orbit Fox plugin. Site administrators should update to this version or later immediately. The fix includes improved input sanitization and output escaping mechanisms for the Registration Form widget (WordPress Plugin).
