CVE-2024-29141: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in the WordPress PDF Embedder plugin versions 4.6.4 and earlier. The vulnerability was identified on March 18, 2024, and has been assigned CVE-2024-29141. The issue affects users with contributor-level privileges or higher who can exploit the vulnerability through improper neutralization of input during web page generation (Patchstack).

The vulnerability stems from the plugin's failure to properly validate and escape certain attributes before outputting them back in the page. This weakness is classified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation). The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 6.5 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L (WPScan).

The vulnerability allows users with contributor-level access to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks that could be used against high-privilege users such as administrators. Successful exploitation could enable attackers to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads that would be executed when visitors access the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability requires an authenticated user with at least contributor-level privileges to exploit. The security issue has been assessed as having a low severity impact and is considered unlikely to be exploited in the wild (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been patched in version 4.7.1 of the PDF Embedder plugin. Site administrators are advised to update to version 4.7.1 or later to remediate the vulnerability.
