WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

Overview

The ElementsKit Elementor Addons and Templates plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the plugin image comparison widget's before/after labels in versions up to and including 3.5.2. The vulnerability was discovered and disclosed on June 18, 2025 (NVD, Wiz).

Technical details

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes in the image comparison widget's before/after labels. The issue has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 score of 6.4 (Medium) with the vector string: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N (NVD).

Impact

This vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or above to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. When a user accesses an affected page, these malicious scripts will execute, potentially leading to session hijacking, credential theft, or other client-side attacks (Wiz).

Mitigation and workarounds

Users should update to a version newer than 3.5.2 when available. Until then, it is recommended to restrict access to the image comparison widget to trusted users only (Wiz).
