Adobe Substance 3D Designer vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2026-48430 is a Heap-based Buffer Overflow vulnerability (CWE-122) in Adobe Substance 3D Designer that could allow arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user. It affects Adobe Substance 3D Designer versions 16.0.4 and earlier, with version 16.0.5 confirmed as unaffected. Adobe disclosed and patched this vulnerability on August 25, 2026. It carries a CVSS v3.1 base score of 7.8 (High) (Adobe Advisory, GitHub Advisory).

The vulnerability is classified as CWE-122 (Heap-based Buffer Overflow), where a buffer allocated in the heap portion of memory can be overwritten due to insufficient bounds checking during file parsing. The attack vector is local, requiring no privileges but necessitating user interaction — specifically, a victim must open a specially crafted malicious file within the application. The overflow condition can corrupt heap memory in a manner that enables control flow hijacking and arbitrary code execution.
