CVE-2025-6757: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The Recent Posts Widget Extended plugin for WordPress contains a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in versions up to and including 2.0.2 (CVE-2025-6757). The vulnerability exists in the plugin's 'rpwe' shortcode due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes (NVD).

The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) with a CVSS v3.1 Base Score of 6.4 (Medium). The attack vector is network-based (AV:N) with low attack complexity (AC:L), requiring low privileges (PR:L) and no user interaction (UI:N). The scope is changed (S:C) with low impacts to both confidentiality and integrity (C:L, I:L) and no impact to availability (A:N) (NVD, Wordfence).

When successfully exploited, this vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These malicious scripts will execute whenever any user accesses the compromised page (NVD).

The plugin has been temporarily closed as of September 4, 2025, pending a full security review. Users are advised to disable and remove the plugin until a patched version becomes available (WordPress Plugin).
